Multi-faceted designer eager to explore the unknown and create his own future.

Kyle Kenneth Beck

I majored in Industrial Design at Wentworth Institute of Technology (BSID ‘09). After interning for for Hasbro and Footjoy while in school, I took a role with Boston-based sporting goods company City Sports to launch their private label collection.

After moving to Austin in 2010, I continued to freelance for City Sports as well as hone my craftsmanship with jobs in carpentry and metalwork.

Through a colleague, I landed at Ion Art working on various projects that encompass all the skills I’ve gathered along my path. Starting by creating vector files for CNC-machining and technical build packets, I worked into a more design-centric role and learned the many intricacies needed to run a small business. By engaging with all departments from design through fabrication, estimating and installation, I built an understanding of the company which eventually spring-boarded me into a role as design director. In this role, I oversee and mentor the design team (6-8 people) and work with sales and estimating to filter incoming jobs, put out fires, while continuing to help Ion Art output some of the most amazing work in Austin.

I balance my day job with personal creative work and an adventurous lifestyle of rock climbing and paddle boarding. I spend time with my wife and dog exploring the Hill Country for watering holes and off the path BBQ shacks.

In August 2019, I am beginning a new journey by attending Austin Center for Design, with a focus on social impact and interaction design and research. I look forward to the growth and new challenges ahead.
